Vegan French Onion Dip

French onion dip was always a staple at my family gatherings growing up. I hadn’t eaten it in over 10 years until I recently made this plant based version. This vegan french onion dip recipe uses blended cashews as the base mixed with a packet of french onion soup mix, lemon juice and plant milk. It is so simple but so addictingly good!

INGREDIENTS FOR VEGAN FRENCH ONION DIP

  • 1 cup raw cashews (can sub raw sunflower seeds)
  • 1 cup plain unsweetened plant milk (I use TJ’s soy milk, plain oat milk also works)
  • Juice of 1 lemon (can also use apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 package French onion dip mix (I use the brand Simply Organic)
  • 1 tsp Trader Joe’s Onion Salt (optional, for extra chive and onion flakes)

HOW TO MAKE it

  • 1. In a high powered blender such as a Vitamix add in the cashews, soy milk and lemon juice. Blend for a minute until completely smooth. If it gets too thick splash in more milk to get it to blend better.
  • 2. Pour blender contents into a mixing bowl. Stir in the French onion dip packet and additional onion salt if using. Place in fridge and let chill for one hour before serving.
  • 3. Pour dip into serving bowl. Serve with ridged potato chips, cucumber slices, and/or carrot slices.

If not using a high powered blender, soak cashews overnight in water or for a couple hours to soften them. A Nutribullet or food processor will also work. You can also sub raw sunflower seeds for cashews.
