I recently posted a youtube video reviewing the Nespresso Vertuo Next and talking about why I ended up returning it. I am a first time Nespresso owner and was very conflicted between getting a vertuo model versus an original model. Here’s a summary of what I thought about the Vertuo Next-
pros of the vertuo next
- Sleek design, looks nice on the counter
- A coffee AND espresso machine all in one** ( the biggest pro IMO)
- Tastes 10/10 amazing, best at home coffee I’ve ever made! (But I’ve never tried any other Nespresso machine before)
- Container holds 8 used capsules (pretty big compared to other models)
- Water tank holds 37 oz (again, bigger than some other models)
- Very easy and convenient
CONS of the vertuo next
- Vertuoline capsules are more expensive than originaline capsules
- Theres NO off brand Vertuo capsules available (because of patented barcode technology on the capsules). Theres many different brands of original line capsules available and I’ve seen some as cheap as 30 cents per capsule!
- Very loud, I saw one youtuber rank it as the loudest model of Nespresso machines
- Bigger than some original Nespresso models
- 5 oz and 7.7 oz capsules pour very small amount of coffee
- 14 oz capsule too watery
- No reusable capsule compatible with Vertuo Next, I tried one and it almost broke my machine
- Wasteful using the capsules every day (they are recyclable though)
- The top can be hard to twist and close- I’ve seen other models easier to close
why i returned the vertuo next
I was very conflicted over this machine for the month that I had it. I loved the way the coffee tasted and I loved that it made both espresso shots and coffee. Despite all that I ended up returning it and exchanging it for an original model. My main reasons for exchanging it were the cost of the Vertuo pods and that theres no off brand Vertuo pods available. I could not imagine spending over $1 per 5 oz of coffee for the rest of my life. haha. Because of the small cup sizes my boyfriend and I needed at least 2 pods to make a drink which adds up in price quickly! I also really wanted to have a reusable capsule and there seemed to be way more options available for the original machines. Also, I live in a tiny 500 sq ft house and it would be nice to have a machine smaller in size!
In the end I returned the Vertuo Next and got the Essenza Mini instead. This ones not available on Nespresso’s website any more but I got it on Amazon for $138. I love that theres more options for cheaper pods on Amazon. I’m also going to order the Seal Pod stainless steel reusable pod. Its amazing that such a tiny 5 lb machine can make such delicious espresso!
Despite my thoughts on it, you might love the Vertuo Next if you want to be able to make coffee AND espresso and if the price of the capsules is not a concern for you. It also looks really pretty on the counter!
