baking sheet
sauce pan
ziplock bag
- 1 package tofu I use super firm, high protein tofu from TJ
Tofu seasoning ingredients
- 1 tbsp corn starch
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp onion powder
Orange sauce ingredients
- 1 cup orange juice
- 4 tbsp maple syrup or other sweetener of choice
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 3 cloves minced garlic
- 1 tbsp minced ginger
- 1/2 tsp red chili flakes
- 1 tsp orange zest
Cornstarch slurry
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp water
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Remove tofu from the package. If using super/extra firm tofu just pat it dry with a paper towel and cut it into cubes. If using firm tofu wrap it in dish towel or paper towels. Place under a heavy object such as a cast iron skillet and let it sit for 5 minutes to press the moisture out. After the 5 mins unwrap the tofu and cut it into cubes.
To a ziplock bag add in the tofu seasoning ingredients and mix them together, then add in the tofu to the bag. Seal the bag and gently toss around the tofu so it is coated in the spices. Take out the tofu and place on an oiled baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes flipping halfway through.
In a sauce pan combine all of the ingredients for the orange sauce over medium heat EXCEPT FOR the cornstarch and water. Let the sauce simmer for 5 minutes. In a separate bowl mix together the cornstarch and water to make the cornstarch slurry. Pour in the cornstarch slurry to the sauce and stir well for 5 more minutes. Turn off the heat and add the tofu to the sauce and mix well to coat it. Serve while hot with brown rice or quinoa
